在许老看来，翻译是两种谈话的竞争，他心中有个犀利下的判断措施。今天的咱们好像会觉多礼裁作品的解读因东说念主而异，并莫得个真确的面目。但在许先生阿谁时期，体裁作品是有个客不雅存在的：有这样座城市，有这样个东说念主物形象⋯⋯它们就在哪里，很具象。
作家使用不同的谈话去抒发它、描写它，英文也好，法文也好，汉文也好，看哪种笔墨、哪种描写适、好，译者也是。许先生赋予了翻译多的创造，他但愿译文比原文好纯真。
从根底上讲，许先生热的谈话文化，是以在翻译番邦演义的时候，他试图让汉文抒发纯正，翻译古诗词时又力传达原谈话的神韵。“翻译是把个国创造的好意思滚动为全全国的好意思”，这是许老常挂在嘴边的话，他的翻译也以“好意思”为终狡计。许渊冲“好意思”，从后生时期就可见斑。
见到后学晚辈，许先生总可爱提及我方的东说念主生信条：“学而时习之，不亦乐乎？我生等于孔子的这句话。学习到好意思好的东西，去扩充它，去滚动它，是多好意思好的事情。别东说念主承认我也好，不认同我也罢，我是无虑无忧。”
